NAME VICTORIES UNIT AIRFORCE COMMENTS

Ščabakov, Vadim Petrovič Щабаков Вадим Петрович 6 921. IAP NVAF pilot-instructor

Comments:
  • Lieutenant Vadim Petrovich Shcherbakov had mistakenly, along with a mis-spelling of his last name "Shchbakov", been identified as a pilot/instructor during a Task Force Russia report in 1992/93 (TFR 18 report):
"(3) Col Vadim Petrovich Shchbakov served as a senior lieutenant pilot officer-instructor in Vietnam in 1966. He is credited with 10 air-to-air engagements and six shootdowns. A photograph of him was dated May, 1991."

  • From 1965 through all of 1966 nearly all of the 48 U.S. jet aircraft shot down by SAMs over North Vietnam were downed by Soviet missile men. During the course of the air defense of North Vietnam, one Russian SAM operator, Lieutenant Vadim Petrovich Shcherbakov, was credited with destroying 11 U.S. aircraft from 20 engagements.
