- North Korea sent more than 200 pilots to fight in the Vietnam War. They were
tasked to defend Hanoi and shot down scores of US planes.
- According to the recollections of general V Abramov, a commander of Soviet
specialists in Vietnam, a "North Korean escadrille of the MiGs" took part in the
conflict. North Korean sources claim one big success to this unit, when a group
of eight "North Korean" MiG-17s attacked a group of F-105s on 25 May 1969 and
shot down 12 of them. American sources claim no losses on that day.
